Torp

multifunctional building on the Puck Bay

The adapted object is one of several unique, located in the waters of the Puck Bay, surrounded by an aura of mystery and inaccessibility, which arouses curiosity of sunbathers, sailors and thrill seekers. Apart from the occasional use of these buildings for exercise by divers or for movie scenery, they remain empty and unused. Damaged, abandoned and inaccessible they are exposed to harmful weather conditions. Every year they are getting more and more degraded.

Decaying buildings located on the Puck Bay are elements of old german Experimental Plants, developing torpedos during the WWII. Our project focuses on one of the objects, located between two cities of Jurata and Jastarnia, which was the observation deck. Thinking of its strategical locaction, we offered to create a multi-functional building.

The building itself is designed not only for the region’s explorers, but also for water sports enthusiasts and for the people, who admire peace and look for some inspirations. Everyone can fell as if they were a secret organisation executive. Therefore, the object is located on the water, approximately 2 kilometers from the bay. During summer, its visitors can approach it with a motorboat, while during winter they can get there on the frozen water surface, or with a hovercraft.

TORP project enables a function that lets to use the location’s potential. It i salso a form to preserve a unique object, which, left in a current state would soon fully decay. Making the project a building coherent with its accompanying landscape, makes an object a Memorial place.
